Two Simpsonville Students Receive Honors

National French honors for Mauldin High's Glorymar Bonilla, and an acting award for Brevard College's Margaret Ledford.

Two students from Simpsonville recently have been recognized for excellence in French and acting.

The American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) announced that Simpsonville's Glorymar Michelle Pi Bonilla, a senior at Mauldin High, has received a 2013 AATF Outstanding Senior in French Award.

This national award is made annually to a graduating senior who has demonstrated excellence in the study of French as well as exceptional commitment to the French language and the many cultures where it is spoken.

Recipients must have completed at least three years of French study at the time of graduation and be non-native speakers of French.

Glory is the daughter of Gina and Johnny Pi of Simpsonville. Glory has studied French for four years and is a student of instructor Noralee Robert.

The AATF was founded in 1927 and has as its mission the promotion of the study of French language, French literatures and French-speaking cultures at all levels.

Meanwhile Brevard (N.C.) College recently recognized outstanding student achievement in academics, leadership and athletics for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Margaret Ledford of Simpsonville received the Non Theatre Studies Major Best Actress Award.

Award winners were recognized at a campus-wide honors and awards luncheon, during special events hosted by each of the college's academic divisions as well as at an annual athletics awards ceremony.

Brevard College's honors and awards program recognizes those students who have excelled in their academic pursuits or have been honored by induction into one or more of the honor societies in their chosen field of study.
