437th Airlift Wing Brings in New Commander

Joint Base Charleston will have change of command Friday.

A formal change of command ceremony will take place Friday for the 437th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Charleston, according to WBTV.

Col. Darren Hartford will resume command, previously held by Col. Erik Hansen, who has commanded the wing since May 2011. Hansen is transferring to Headquarters U.S. Africa Command in Stuttgart, Germany.

The TV news station reported Col. Hartford currently serves as the assistant director of operations at Headquarters Air Mobility Command at Scott AFB, Ill.

According to the base's factsheets, the 437th has 57 assigned C-17A Globemaster III aircraft and provides a significant portion of Air Mobility Command's Global Reach airlift capability.
