Couple was fostering kittens that died of blunt-force trauma.

A Ladson couple accused of killing several kittens will face a jury trial on six counts of animal abuse and neglect, the Journal Scene reports.

Randi Nicholson and Jonathan Szall were never arrested for the allegations and requested a jury trial last week. A trial date has not been set, according to Dorchester County Animal Control's Clay Pendarvis.

Each count carries up to a $500 fine and/or 30 days in jail.

The Journal Scene reported:

According to a Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the Charleston Animal Society reported that the couple took a litter of kittens into their home for foster care. However, the kittens all died while in their care; subsequent veterinary examinations of all the kittens found that the cause of death for each kitten was inflicted blunt-force trauma injuries to the head. The injuries were inconsistent with dog attack, according to the report.
