County Authorizes $1.2M in Funds for Jail Site
Dorchester County Council transfers funds from stormwater to general fund to pay for new site.

The Jedburg jail is one step closer to coming to fruition.Â
Dorchester County Council approved transferring $1.2 million from the storm water utility fund to the general fund for purchase of the site on Hodge Road for the future 352-bed, 79,500-square-foot facility.
In a specially called meeting of Dorchester County Council Wednesday, council unanimously authorized the transfer.

The new jail will be near the Sheriff's Office on Deming Way.

It will replace the St. George jail, which has safety concerns, space constraints and takes Summerville-area law enforcement three hours off the street to book arrestees, according to council members.Â
