Emergency Management Director Earns Certification
S.C. Emergency Management Association certifies Dorchester County's Mario Formisano.

The Dorchester County Emergency Management Director, Mario Formisano, has been credentialed by the South Carolina Emergency Management Association as a South Carolina Certified Emergency Manager (SCCEM).
The SCCEM program was developed by the SC Emergency Management Association in coordination with the SC Emergency Management Division. The program is intended to enhance the State’s preparedness by ensuring a better trained cadre of emergency managers with a well-rounded and standardized base of professional knowledge.

The certification process involves the assembly of documentation for more than 200 hours of training in Emergency Management and General Management, an After Action Report from a real-world or exercise experience including a performance assessment from the applicant’s supervisor and professional references. The training requirements have been completed over more than 5 years in the profession as most are classroom based.
“I’m pleased that Mario has achieved this professional certification, because it means that we’re better prepared for a disaster,” said Jason Ward, County Administrator.

The SCCEM training requirements have been incorporated into the department’s training program and the other Emergency Management Department staff members aretaking steps to achieve this certification as well. The Emergency Management Department is committed to providing exemplary service and coordination in peace time and during disasters.
“My next step is to achieve the credential for International Association of Emergency Manager program, which is recognized worldwide,” said Formisano.
