Heroic McCray Girls Meet 911 Dispatcher

Dorchester County Council passes resolution honoring 5 year old and 4 year old.

911 dispatcher Sarah McCallister called the two young girls seeking help for their mother last month "very intelligent."

Crouching, she shook hands with 4-year-old Mackenzie and 5-year-old Demari McCray, who called her after her mother had a seizure. 

Monday, Dorchester County Council recognized the girls' bravery.

Here is the resolution:

Whereas, Demari McCray and Mackenzie McCray are the children of Danielle and Mario McCray of Ladson, South Carolina; and

Whereas, Demari, five years old, and Mackenzie, four years old, called Emergency 911 when their mother needed medical attention; and

Whereas, Demari and Mackenzie were quick thinking and calm in an emergency; and

Whereas, Demari provided important information to dispatch; and

Whereas, Mackenzie held her mother's hand and sang "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" to comfort her.

Now, therefore, be it resolved, Dorchester County Council wishes to recognize Demari McCray and Mackenzie McCray for their bravery and responsible action to call 911 in an emergency.

Be it further resolved, that upon adoption of this Resolution, the original shall be presented to them, and a copy shall be filed i nthe permanent records of Dorchester County, South Carolina.

Adopted this 17th day of September 2012.

After the resolution, County Council also recognized 911 dispatcher Sarah McCallister and the EMS team who responded.
