My husband and I lived the first 3 years of our marriage apart due to military obligations. I separated from the military in order to spend my life with my husband. I started a new program at the Medical University of South Carolina. Within our first year of living together, my husband was deployed or at training for approximately 10 months of the year. He received news of a new assignment while on deployment. He is currently still deployed and will return home to attend training out of the state for an additional period of time. He will be home briefly for the holidays before moving onto his new assignment. I will be unable to follow him due to the constraints of my academic program. By the time I am able to rejoin my husband, our "live-in" time will total around 5 months over a span of 6 years. Our situation is far from normal and while we had hoped to start our lives together after over 4 years of long distance marriage, we know that our love for one another will withstand the distance that will be between us again. We are committed not only to our marriage, but also to the commitments made to serve our country. We have truly sacrificed. We would be so thankful to have a trip to devote and enjoy the little time we will have with each other over the next year and a half.
