Letter to the Editor: Christine Jackson

Summerville resident Christine Jackson questions the silence from local legislators on last week's data breach.

The recent data breach is now widely known as the mother of all data breaches and the state’s response to this disaster is pathetic and embarrassing. The credit monitoring, offered to citizens, is an insufficient response to the state’s incompetence.

Representative Murphy and Senator Rose, were elected to represent citizens in the SC legislature. They are supposed to be the peoples’ voice; their silence on this disaster speaks volumes. Senators Vincent Sheheen and Brad Hutto, as well as Representatives James Smith and Mia Butler Garrick, and others, have been vocal and working to get answers for their constituents. Whether Murphy's and Rose's silence is due to some political brand of damage control or not placing their constituents high enough on their priority list, the lack of action or even comment on this breach is disturbing, to say the least.

Dorchester County voters, all South Carolina voters, deserve better.
