Officer Shoots Dog in Pine Forest

Summerville Police officer shoots one of two aggressive dogs in Pine Forest.

A Summerville Police officer shot a dog charging him in outside Pine Forest Country Club, according to a July 28 incident report. 

Police were called to the neighborhood in reference to two aggressive dogs, described as "pit bulls," charging people who were playing tennis. 

When the responding officer located the two dogs, one began barking aggressively, according to the report. The officer called dispatch to advise animal control of the situation.

According to the report, the dark brown dog then ran towards the officer and the officer began backing up slowly. The officer reported that the dog continued to charge. Unable to make it to his patrol car, the officer shot the dog after it charged him again and was within four feet of the officer, according to the report.

The injured dog ran off past the driving range, into the woodline and was not found, according to the report. The other dog was located and picked up by animal control after use of a tranquilizer gun.
