Recalled Drug Given to 2 Patients in Summerville

Administered drug not the steroid linked to deadly fungal meningitis outbreak.

Lowcountry Outpatient Surgery Center of Summerville has given two patients one of the hundreds of drugs recalled, the Post and Courier reported.

The center's administrator told the publication the drug administered was not the steroid linked to fungal meningitis outbreak. The drug manufacturer New England Compounding Center has recalled hundreds of drugs and is under federal investigation for the meningitis-linked steroid.

Both patients have been contacted and informed of the recall.
