Students Tour Boeing Facility, Meet Governor

Boeing's Dream Learner program began in September.

Nearly 60 sixth graders from Morningside Middle School got an inside glimpse into Boeing's plant in North Charleston, and a surprise visit from the South Carolina governor Tuesday.

"They too are becoming a part of the dream that is Boeing," Gov. Nikki Haley said.

The Dream Learners program began in September and is focused on middle schoolers, Boeing spokeswoman Candy Eslinger said. The children come by in the morning and tour the facility. At the end, they have to build and fly a model airplane to put their knowledge to work by bringing to project in on time and on budget, Eslinger said.

Boeing Vice President Jack Jones said Haley's appearance for the Morningside Middle class was not planned for the kids. Haley was visiting the plant Tuesday also and had time to meet the children. Afterwards, Haley met with the press.

"As soon as she walked in, they knew who she was," Jones said.
