Summerville Home Destroyed in Friday Fire
Early morning fire destroys Summerville family's home.

Old Fort Fire Department responded to an early morning fire Friday in a community near the intersection of Highway 78 and Mallard Road.
The home was destroyed by fire.Â
Lowcountry Red Cross reports volunteers assisted a Summerville family of six, including four children.Â

The Red Cross provided the family with temporary shelter, funds to help replace the food and clothing that were lost in the fire, comfort kits containing personal hygiene items, toys for the children and referrals to Red Cross partner agencies to assist with their long term recovery.

The Red Cross has responded to 12 disasters, assisting 49 individuals in its seven-county region of Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper counties, since July 1.Â
