Real Estate Agent Pleads Guilty to Mortgage Fraud

Scott M. Wickersham of Summerville pleaded guilty for his part in a $45-million fraud conspiracy.

A Summerville real estate agent has pleaded guilty for his part in a $45 million mortgage fraud conspiracy and tax crimes, Live 5 News reported.

Scott M. Wickershame, 33, was accused of conspiracy to committ mail, wire and bank fraud, and two counts of willfully making and subscribing a false tax return. The group operated under the namesΒ North American Mortgage Group LLC, New Freedom Enterprises LLC, and Realty Executives of Coastal Carolina.

(United State Attorney Bill)Β Nettles says WickershamΒ had "investors", or straw purchasers,Β purchase more than 70 properties at inflated appraised prices, and provided false information to mortgage lenders to help approve the purchases.
