Time Warner Cable Repays $124k in Fees to Town

Fee for E-911 service mistakenly paid to Dorchester County.

The Town of Summerville just got a $124,661 boon for three years of back E-911 fees from Time Warner Cable.Β

According to Finance Director Belinda Harper, who made a presentation to Town Council Monday during the finance committee meeting, Time Warner Cable had mistakenly paid the fee to the county over the last three years. The town was unaware of the issue until Time Warner brought it to its attention, since E-911 fees are paid by only telephone companies and the company has not traditionally offered phone services.Β

The county is aware of the problem but had no comment Monday, stating they would know later in the week what will happen with the fees. It is not known if Time Warner Cable will seek reimbursement from the county.Β

Councilman Walter Bailey suggested charging Time Warner Cable interest, and Harper said she would look into the matter.Β
