Town Breaks Ground on Knightsville Fire Station

New fire station will serve Pine Forest Country Club, Corey Woods, White Gables and Guilford Gates subdivisions and more.

Thousands of Summerville residents are now a few shovels of dirt closer to a new fire station that will halve Summerville Fire's response time in Knightsville.

The town held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday for the fire station at 101 W. Butternut Road in Knightsville. The station is within a mile of Pine Forest Country Club, Corey Woods, White Gables and Guilford Gates subdivisions.

Fire Chief Richard Waring said the new station will decrease response times from six to nine minutes to three to five minutes.

"It's going to be huge," Waring said.

The station will not create new hires for the fire department. Instead, existing firefighters will man the station, Waring said.
