Woman Leads Cops on High Speed Chase with Children in Car

A St. Stephens woman allegedly tried to evade deputies Tuesday, driving in excess of 100 mph with 1-year-old and infant children in the vehicle.

Dorchester County deputies have arrested and charged a woman they said led them on a high-speed chase Tuesday with two young children in the vehicle.

Sakinah Denise Brown, 31, of St. Stephens has been charged with disregarding a bluelight and child endangerment.

The pursuit, which hit speeds in excess of 100 mph, ended in the suspect crashing the vehicle on Lincolnville Road. The 1-year-old and infant children in the vehicle — one of which was allegedly not properly restrained — were transported to the hospital but are not severely injured. The children's mother, Katasha Brown, was also in the vehicle but does not face charges.

According to the incident report, deputies arrived at a residence where Sakinah Brown was located to serve active warrants. Brown's active warrants include one for probation violation.

Upon the responding officer's arrival, Brown allegedly fled in a Chevrolet Avalanche SUV, and deputies pursued her. The chase began in the Moss Pointe subdivision of Ladson.

Deputies say Brown then zigged and zagged on neighborhood roads, finally turning onto Ladson Road. Deputies lost sight of the vehicle briefly but found her parked at 101 Shearwater Drive. As a deputy tried to keep her from fleeing, Brown allegedly took off again and went back onto Ladson Road.

After Brown took a left onto Lincolnville Road, deputies say she drove in excess of 80 mph. She allegedly turned off of Lincolnville Road and onto neighborhood roads between Lincolnville and Summerville. When she returned to Lincolnville Road going back towards Ladson Road, deputies reported speeds in excess of 100 mph.

On that road, Brown allegedly lost control of the vehicle and struck two oncoming vehicles. The Avalanche ended up in the woods, and Brown allegedly abandoned the vehicle occupants and fled to a nearby neighborhood where she was later apprehended.
