From Greenville County Parks and Recreation
Be a Hero... Volunteer! Do you love parks? How about giving back to the community? If so, you should be a Park Hero. Park Heroes is a public park volunteer corps created by the Greater Greenville Parks Foundation and Greenville Rec. Volunteering in your parks is a great way to give back, meet new people, have some fun, and help out the public places we all enjoy.
Why volunteer in public parks? Simple, public parks are your parks. They are an extension of your backyard. There is no better way to feel a sense of ownership and pride in your public parks than rolling up your sleeves and getting a little dirty.
Since its creation in August, 2012, over 500 Park Heroes have volunteered in 15 public parks. Recently 350 volunteers from World Redemption Outreach Church volunteered at 12 Greenville Rec parks and facilities through their "Serve Our City" campaign. They cleared brush on the GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail, helped build bike skills trails at Gateway Park, painted picnic tables at Riverbend Equestrian Park, and much more.
If you want to be a Park Hero, visit www.parkheroes.org to sign up and we will keep you informed of volunteer opportunities as they arise. Currently we have opportunities to work on the bike skills trails at Gateway Park on March 9th and March 16th. Visit www.greaterparksfoundation.org to register.
