Arrest Made in Wade Hampton Stabbing

Greenville County Sheriff's deputies have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the stabbing of a Wade Hampton High School student.

An 18-year-old Taylors man has been taken into custody by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office for a student on Friday, the agency announced Saturday morning. 

Joseph Andrew Ryland, who resides at Bellview Road in the Taylors area, is charged with attempted murder. He is accused of stabbing another male who was a student at Wade Hampton during an altercation that occurred in the parking where the Bijou theater used to sit. 

At roughly 4 p.m., several students reportedly had walked to that parking lot next to the school when they began became involved in a verbal altercation with Ryland, according to the GCSO. At one point, at least one punch was thrown, and Ryland allegedly got up and stabbed the nearest person to him with a knife.

The victim, who suffered a stab wound to his abdomen, is expected to recover. 

Ryland remained in jail Saturday on $30,000 surety bond at the Greenville County Detention Center.
