Blue Ridge High Student Assaulted

A 17-year-old student at Blue Ridge High was reportedly assaulted while at school on Tuesday.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is investigating if it will press criminal charges against a student who assaulted another student earlier this week.

WSPA is reporting that 17-year-old Austin Farmer was assaulted by another student Tuesday at Blue Ridge High School in Greer. Farmer, who was attacked in the boys' bathroom at the school, sustained serious facial injuries, according to the report.

The victim's mother told WSPA that her son suffered a fractured jaw, and had injuries that would require plastic surgery to repair.

Oby Lyles, communications director for the Greenville County School District, said the assailant had been recommended for expulsion.

"The school and district administrations are very concerned about yesterday's assault of a student," Lyles said. "The school has exercised its full authority by suspending the assailant and recommending him for expulsion, and will continue to work with law enforcement in its criminal investigation. This is an isolated case and does not portray the safe learning environment at Blue Ridge High School."
