BMW Posts Record Sales In July

The premium car manufacturer said it is well on its way of achieving a 1.6 million sales goal in 2011

The BMW Group saw a successul July, reporting 129,094 vehicles sold among the BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand and an increase of 7.6 percent over last year when the company sold 119,992.

Ian Robertson, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Sales and Marketing said the company is "aiming for a record year."

“We have just reported the most successful July sales ever and we are well on our way to achieving our recently announced target of over 1.6 million vehicles in 2011, the best ever sales result for the BMW Group, Robertson said in a news release. "We are clearly benefitting from a very attractive product line-up which is finding success with customers right across the globe.”

In the past seven months, BMW reported the number of deliveries climbed 17.9 percent and 962,468 vehicles. In 2010, the company delivered 816,014 vehicles.

According to the release, in the United States, the company delivered 26,120 vehicles in July, an 11.7 percent increase over the previous year.

Again the company reported strong sales in China in July, where 18,858 vehicles were sold last month a 36.1 percent increase over last year when on 13,852 were sold.

In Germany, BMW said sales remained unchanged in July of this year in comparison to the same month last year. The company said they registered 23, 212 new BMW and MINIs.

The company attributes the lagging sales to line-up changes, including a makeover of the BMW 1 Series for a second generation of the vehicle.

The group also saw improved sales in Brazil, Russia, India and Korea.

The highest growth in sales among BMW products was once again driven by the BMW X3, which is manufactured at the Greer plant. The company said more than 9,762 units were sold last month, a 193.2 percent increase over 2010, when only 3,329 of the vehicles were sold.
