The free nine-week course provides participants with a better understanding of how the fire department operates and the job that firefighters perform. The academy will include both informative classroom sessions and hands-on training.

Participants will tour City of Greer fire stations and its dispatch center, meet firefighters and 911 personnel, try on personal protective equipment, extinguish a fire, participate on a ride-along, and learn CPR and home fire safety tips.

Class sessions for the new academy begin on Sept 23 and will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Classes will be held at the City of Greer Fire Department’s station and training facility located at 1985 Hood Rd.

 

Applicants do not need to be a City of Greer resident to apply, but they must be aged 18 years or older to apply.

 

Applications must be submitted by Sept. 7 and are available online on the Fire Department section of this website.
