County Council Candidate's Signs Being Stolen, Destroyed

A candidate for county council has had so many signs stolen or destroyed that her supporters have scheduled a fundraising event to help replace them. 

Jenn Webb, who is running against incumbent Bob Taylor for county council, confirmed to Patch that many of her signs, which have dotted spots along East North Street and Wade Hampton Boulevard for weeks now, had been taken or destroyed. 

Overall, she said, at least 30 small road signs had been taken and five of the large signs measuring five feet long have been taken. 

Some signs have been found torn into pieces. Webb said she started noticing the vandalism and theft almost as soon as she put them out a month ago. The destroyed and stolen signs amount to hundreds of dollars of lost investment for Webb, as the small signs cost $7 each, and the large ones can cost up to $90 each. 

"I feel the sign issue is intended to be a distraction for me," Webb said. "However, I have not let it detour me from my mission to work hard on this campaign, so that I can be the neighborhood voice for Greenville County District 22. Their endorsement is all I care about."

The owner of a home where one large Webb sign was taken has filed a report with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office. 

"She was mainly concerned because someone obviously trespassed on her personal property and felt violated," Webb said. 

An event raising money to help buy new replacement signs is being held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at American Pub and Grub located at 3715 East North Street. 

When asked about the signs, Webb expressed frustration, but made it a point to stay on message. 

"This election is about a new voice for county council," Webb said. "This is the voters' opportunity to elect someone who cares about our neighborhoods, transparency in our government and safety for our families. I do not know who is stealing the signs. I would just like it to stop."
