Deadline Extended for Taxpayers to Sign Up for Experian

South Carolinians now have until March 31 to sign up for one year of free credit monitoring.

South Carolinians will have three more months to sign up for a state-paid credit monitoring service.

Gov. Nikki Haley announced Friday that the deadline for signing up for Experian's ProtectMyID service has been extended to March 31.

The service is being offered a from the Department of Revenue.

Nearly 1 million people have signed up for the service. The state is paying Experian $12 million for one year of credit monitoring and dedicated call center operators.

Notices to affected taxpayers began going out last week.
