Deputies: Fleeing Suspect Arrested

Officials said a man who jumped into a river in an effort to escape pursuing deputies Wednesday night was held at gunpoint by a homeowner until deputies arrived.
Greenville County Sheriff's deputies 22-year-old Carl Lanphear escaped on foot near the Greenville County line, after being chased by Anderson County Sheriff's deputies around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Anderson deputies chased Lanphear's vehicle to the end of Arden Road in West Pelzer. That's when Lanphear jumped out of the vehicle and dove into the Saluda River.

As Greenville deputies were responding to assist Anderson, Greenville County dispatch received a call a homeowner at 133 Meares Drive, Pelzer, stating a white male had entered the home and advised he was running from the police.
The homeowner told deputies he had the suspect at gunpoint.

Once the homeowner was safely out of the home, the suspect temporarily barricaded himself inside the home.
Deputies said they forced entry into the home and were able to detain the suspect after a brief struggle.
Lanphear was arrested by Greenville deputies and charged with burglary first degree, resisting arrest, ossession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and assault and battery first degree.
He is currently in the Greenville County Detention Center. A bond has not been set on his burglary charge. He has a $15,000 on the remaining charges.
