Deputies: Woman Sexually Assaulted, Left In Street

Woman left unconscious in the street after being carjacked

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying the man they say stole a woman's car before sexually assaulting the occupant and leaving her battered in the road in Taylors.

Master Deputy Jennings Autrey said Thursday that the incident occurred on Aug. 20 at the intersection of West Lee Road and Donnan Road in Taylors.

"The victim reported being carjacked and sexually assaulted by a Hispanic male near the intersection," Jennings said. "The victim’s vehicle was located a short distance away."

The victim, a 40-year-old white female, was found at 7:15 a.m. the next day, roughly a half-mile away from where the carjacking took place, at the intersection of Meridian Avenue and Bob White Lane.

When Greenville County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, the victim was unconscious, with visible bruising on her face, back, arms and legs, according to the incident report.

Autrey said the GCSO is just now releasing the information because investigators had to develop their case as the victim, who was traumatized by the event, continued to provide information little by little.

"We moved at her pace, and at her comfort level," Autrey said.

The victim has since provided investigators with a description of the suspect, which was used to develop a sketch of the man, who has been described as an Hispanic male.

Anyone with information about the assault, or who may recognize the person depicted in the sketch is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 23-Crime.
