Duncan Man Charged With Threatening a State Employee

Russell Clark Johnson, 66, was arrested by SLED agents Thursday.

A 66-year-old Upstate man has been arrested after he threatened state employees over the phone, according to the State Law Enforcement Division.

Russell Clark Johnson, of Duncan, was arrested Thursday by SLED agents. He is charged with threatening the life of a public employee and unlawful use of a telephone.

According to warrants, Johnson threatened to "inflict bodily harm" on employees of the South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff.

The Office of Regulatory Staff represents the public interest in utility regulation for electric, natural gas, telecommunications, transportation and water/waste-water.

The release from SLED did not say what had led to the alleged threats.

If convicted, Johnson could face a $500 fine or 30-day imprisonment for each misdemeanor charge.
