East North Academy Student Diagnosed with Viral Meningitis

This case is not connected to the Woodland Elementary case in Greer, but it is the second case reported in Greenville County Schools.

A second Greenville County Schools' student has been diagnosed with meningitis.

The school district announced Tuesday that a student at East North Street Academy has been diagnosed with viral meningitis.

This case is not connected to the case at Woodland Elementary School in Greer.

In an email from district spokesman Oby Lyles, the child's illness at East North Street is noted as mild. A statement from the principal also said the parent had caught the signs very early on.

Symptoms of meningitis include fever, headache, stiff neck, confusion, drowsiness, light sensitivity, nausea and/or loss of appetite.

DHEC is advising anyone that has had these symptoms within the past 10 days to contact a doctor.

Lyles said that both schools will continue to clean and disinfect based on the standards set by DHEC.
