Expelled BJU Student Submitting Appeal Tuesday

Chris Peterman, who was kicked off campus at Bob Jones University in April, said he will submit a formal appeal to the school.

The Florida native who was in Greenville in April said Monday that he planned on sending in a formal appeal to the Christian school by Tuesday in hopes that he be reinstated and receive his degree.

Chris Peterman was expelled in April for reportedly engaging in which included, among other things, watching the Fox show "Glee." Peterman said he started being docked more and more demerits after he publicly called for the resignation of Chuck Phelps, a BJU board member who allegedly forced a woman named Tina Anderson to ask her church congregation for "forgiveness" after she'd been raped by a member of the church more than a decade prior in New Hampshire.

According to Carol A. Keirstead, chief communications officer with the school, Peterman must fill out specific paperwork for a formal appeal. Peterman said Monday that the formal appeal was nearly completed.

"I'm still working on my appeal," Peterman said. "I wrote it, and didn't like it, so I'm writing another one. I'm still sort of in limbo."

Peterman said he expected to submit the formal appeal in the mail by Tuesday. In the meantime, he said, he is now looking at other colleges in the event he cannot get reinstated at BJU.
