Explore Opportunities to Serve Through MissionNext Southeast

Unsure of what your calling may be? Wanting to work in the mission field? Not sure you could be a missionary? Then a two-day forum being held in the Upstate, could help you to answer those questions.

Hundreds of ministry options are waiting. But how does one decide?

MissionNext Southeast could be the answer for those who long to explore opportunities to serve God, but don't know where to start.

A two-day forum planned for May 3-4 at First Baptist North Spartanburg will gather local, state and national missions opportunities in one place to allow the public to ask questions or to seek advice about mission work.

"Some people feel really called to serve, but they don't know where to turn," said Don Parrott, president and CEO of MissionNext. "Maybe they've spent 25 or 30 years in business and retired, and now, they want something to keep them busy. If they have an interest and a desire, we can help them find a ministry that would work with their skill set."

Dr. Ralph Carter, pastor of Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Taylors and also a member of North Greenville University's Board of Trustees, will open Friday night's forum with a time of praise and worship. In information on the MissionNext website, Carter said that mission work was for all people, not just a certain denomination.

"For us to reach the nations, it's going to require all of us working together, at times overlooking minor differences, for the sake of communicating the gospel to those who are lost," Carter wrote.

On Saturday, attendees will participate in plenary sessions, as well as breakout sessions. The plenary sessions are designed to show attendees how to play a role in sharing God's word. The breakout sessions will focus on life issues like using their skills, planning for the journey and making sure it's the right time for the journey to begin.

MissionNext Southeast is open to anyone with an interest and desire to serve. But Parrot said it's a "blessing," that doesn't come with some sacrifices. He said that is one of the many reasons the Southeast forum is so valuable.

The forum is a place to gather information about everything mission-related, Parrot said.

"Having people to talk to about how to finance their work in the mission field is important," Parrot said. "Having people to ask questions about working locally or internationally, or on making a long-term versus short-term commitment is also important."

Parrot said the experience could be life-changing for some attendees.

"They may find that it's time for a major change and that they are looking at something longer term, an experience like no other, an opportunity to serve internationally," Parrot said. "It all depends on time, availability, the person and the type of work they hope to do."

Parrot said they will also provide information about summer opportunities within the MissionNext organization. For those organizing mission trips, the forum can provide new places and opportunities that need open hearts and willing servants, he said.

"The forum is open to anyone who is looking to make a difference in lives, to impact others," Parrot said. "Whether they are looking to start now or in the future, this is a valuable opportunity to connect with the possibilities."
