Former Riverside Standout Elected to USC Hall of Fame

Megan Matthews, along with seven others, will be inducted on Thursday, September 12 in The Zone at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Greer native Megan Matthews is slated to go in the University of South Carolina Hall of Fame.

Matthews, a standout pitcher known as the "Riverside Rocket" in high school, played from 1998-2002 for the Gamecocks. During that time, she won 101 games for USC and led the nation in saves as a true freshman. 

Matthews, along with seven others, will be inducted on Thursday, Sept. 12, in The Zone at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Matthews ended her collegiate career as the Gamecocks' all-time leader in strikeouts, complete games, and innings pitched.

While at Riverside, Matthews was a three-time 3A state player of the year in 1997, 1997, 1998. She led her team to state championship all three years. She also was named an all-state player four times.
