GALLERY: State Superintendent of Education Visits Greer

Dr. Mick Zais speaks to Greer Chamber of Commerce, tours career center.

Dr. Mick Zais, South Carolina state superintendent, visited Greer on Friday, first speaking to the Greer Chamber of Commerce, and later touring the Bonds Career Center on Main Street, which offers specific training in multiple career paths, such as automotive technology, culinary arts, welding and cosmotology.

"I want people to know why I visited today," Zais said while touring with Bonds Director Wayne Rhodes.

"We need to highlight the importance of career training. Too often, places like these are seen as the second option. Well, for a lot of people, they're the first option."

"If you looked in that welding class text book, and see what they're studying here (inside an auto-tech classroom), it's some complex stuff," Zais added later. "These kids aren't dummies."
