Grayson Running For School Board
Joy Grayson, a Taylors resident, is running for the District 17 seat being vacated by Tommie Reece.

Joy Grayson announced her candidacy for Greenville County School Board of Trustees, District 17, on Wednesday.
Grayson, a former prosecutor in the state of Georgia, is currently a member of the Legislative Advocacy Committee of Public Education Partners of Greenville County, a non-profit organization focused on improving the quality of Greenville County schools. She also serves as the legislative liaison for PTA District 1 and the Greenville Middle Academy PTA, as well on the School Improvement Council at Greenville Middle Academy. She previously served on the Mountain View Elementary School PTA in various capacities, during which she initiated and directed an early-childhood reading program. An active community volunteer, she is past president of her homeowners’ association.
Grayson's campaign emphasized Wednesday the fact that Grayson is a product of South Carolina schools and is the only candidate in the race who has children currently in the Greenville County schools.

“Investing in the quality of K-12 education is the key to reducing overall spending in public education in the County. Any long-range vision of enhancing economic development in the Upstate should include improving education and investing in our youngest citizens,” Grayson said. “As a school board member, I would work to strengthen the ties between education and economic development, to maximize the County’s limited resources, and to ensure the best in quality student education. As Greenville Forward recommends, our education should be a seamless path from early childhood through college and into the workforce.”
Grayson is running against Sunny Weigand of Travelers Rest and Paul Fallavollita of Greenville for the District 17 seat, which represents northeastern portions of Greenville County, including the Travelers Rest area, Tigerville, Blue Ridge, part of Taylors, and Paris Mountain. Tommie Reece, who is running for the South Carolina Senate, is vacating the seat.
