Greenville Rec Water Parks To Open This Summer With New Regulations

New, stricter safety requirements are being implemented this summer in light of last year's near-drownings.

Water parks operated by the Greenville County Recreation District will open up May 19, and this summer the visitors who swim in them will be subject to new enhanced safety requirements.

According to the Greenville Rec web site, any children under 42 inches tall must now wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket, and be accompanied by an adult guardian at all times.

"This includes swimmers, non-swimmers, and infants. Life jackets will be provided on a first-come first-served basis at each park," the statement reads.

Customers are allowed to bring their own life jackets if they are Coast Guard-approved devices.

The announcement comes in light of last year's eventful summer at Greenville Rec pools, especially Otter Creek Water Park near Taylors, where two children were found unresponsive in near-drowning .
