Greenville Technical College released its Campus Police Safety and Fire Report on Friday, showing little change in most statistical categories for crime, other than an increase in burglaries on one of the college's campuses. The report, distributed annually to students at the college, showed little overall change in the school's safety numbers.
Last year, Greenville Tech's main campus on Pleastanburg Drive, the Barton Campus, had a reported 17 burglaries, up from only two a year before that. However, 2010's burglary numbers merely represent a rebound of past property crime activity, as 2008 also saw a reported 17 of such cases.
Meanwhile, on the school's Greer Campus, located on Locust Hill Road in Taylors, there were no reported criminal incidents for the third consecutive year.
"The statistics presented in this Clery report show that Greenville Tech is not crime-free. We are, however, making every effort to minimize safety, and we appreciate your help with that effort," President Keith Miller states in the report.
Campus Police echoed that sentiment.
"Although Greenville Technical College is safe, no campus in America is crime-free," Capt. Eddie Ridgeway of the Campus Police said.
