Greer Family Fest Will Honor Veterans with 'Walk of Honor'

If you have a veteran in your life, please encourage them to meet at the fountains in City Park at 6:30 p.m. Saturday

Veterans are an important part of the Greer community.

That's why organizers for the 29th Annual Village Hospital Greer Family Fest are honoring them Saturday with a "Walk of Honor."

The is the second year that the festival has honored veterans.

"We want to publicly be able to say, 'thank you,' for what they do and what they have done for our community and our country," said Mark Owens, vice president of the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce. "We wouldn't be able to put on festivals like this, if it were not for them."

Owens said organizers are working feverishly to contact as many veteran groups as possible. But he encourages the public to bring friends and family members who are veterans to be a part of this event.

Veterans will gather at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in front of the fountains at Greer City Park.

The “Walk of Honor” is presented by Citizens Building and Loan. The walk will leave the park, moving toward the Nationwide Insurance Garfield Main Stage area.

The Blue Ridge High School National Guard program will be escorting the veterans through the park and will end with a Presentation of the Colors. The Marshall Tucker Band will take the stage at 7:30pm.
