Greer Man Sentenced For Child Sex Assault

Sam Smith, a 69-year-old man from Greer, was convicted this week of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Smith was found guilty of performing sex acts on a 9-year-old girl, a crime initially reported on Aug. 21, 2008, according to GreerToday.com. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison. 

The victim's statements to investigators were reportedly crucial to the case, as she provided important information to law enforcement. Officials from the Children's Advocacy Center also testified on behalf of the state.

Besides the 15-year sentence, Smith will be placed on the sex offender registry in the event of his release.
