Original story: Daniel Palka, a Greer High grad now with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, is expected to be taken today in the Major League Baseball draft.
“Obviously if the right opportunity arises, the plan is to go out and get my career started now," Palka told The Greenville News.
“There’s really nothing else to prove,” said Palka, now in his third season at Georgia Tech. “So there’s not much more to do except move on to the next thing."
Palka was a two-time All-State player at Greer, where he tossed two no-hitters and batted .470 as a senior with 14 homers.
He was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 19th round in 2010, but opted for school instead. Analysts project he could taken in or around the fourth round, which will take place today.
Palka, a pitcher in high school and now a right-fielder, produced 41 home runs, 165 RBIs and a .314 average in three seasons at Georgia Tech.
