GSP Airport to Lose Two Departure Flights

In August, GSP will lose a flight to Orlando International and in September it will lose a flight to Baltimore Washington International, as Southwest Airlines begins converting cities served by Air Trans Airways.

Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport is losing two daily departure flights later this summer.

The airport announced Monday that Southwest Airlines is in the process of cutting cities using Air Tran Airways flights in order to grow the cities served by Southwest. Because of the switch, GSP will lose two daily departing flights. The first flight will be cut Aug. 11, 2013 to Orlando International. The second flight to Baltimore Washington International will end service for one of two daily departures beginning Sept. 28, 2013.

In a release from the airport, officials said the Southwest flight to Baltimore International may return at a later date.

GSP's Southwest flights to Nashville, Houston and Chicago will remain unchanged.

Upstate passengers still have the ability to access the Orlando market with direct service provided by Allegiant Air, according to GSP.

Allegiant offers several weekly nonstop flights into Orlando Sanford, and has expressed an interest in providing additional service into Orlando-Sanford later this year, according to a release.
