Homeowner Shoots Autobreaking Suspect

The 16-year-old suspect was treated for a gunshot wound and released into the custody of his parents.

A 16-year-old was treated for a gunshot wound after a Greenville County homeowner allegedly found the teen breaking into a vehicle in his driveway, according to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they were called to 39 North Haven Drive near Old Buncombe Road at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday in reference to an autobreaking case where the suspect had been  shot.

The homeowner said he heard a noise outside the home, according to the incident report. Armed with a firearm the homeowner went to investigate and found the suspect breaking into a vehicle in the driveway, the report said.

A 12-gauge shotgun was seized during the investigation. Deputies said that as of this morning, the homeowner has not been charged in this incident.

The suspect was charged with autobreaking and released to his parent/guardian.
