Update: Mitchell Road Crash Victim Identified

Troopers said the wreck happened around 3:25 a.m.

UPDATE: Greenville County Deputy Coroner Jeff Fowler identified the victim as Charles Michael Johnson of Greenville. A cause of death will be released following an autopsy scheduled later today.

Original post: One person is dead after a single-vehicle collision on Mitchell Road.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the male driver of a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe died at the scene of the crash around 3:25 a.m. Thursday.

Troopers said the 35-year-old driver ran off the road right side of the road, over-corrected, then ran off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said.

The accident is under investigation. Greenville County Coroner's Office has not released the name of the victim.
