Motorcyclist Dies Two Days After Accident

An Aug. 19 accident north of Taylors has claimed the life of motorcyclist.

A motorcyclist succumbed to injuries Tuesday that he sustained on Sunday in a wreck still being investigated by the South Carolina Higway Patrol. 

The man, who was identified as 30-year-old Edwin Charles Stokes by the Greenville County Coroner's Office, was driving a Yamaha motorcycle west on S.C. 414, also known as Glassy Road in a rural area north of Taylors, said Bill Rhyne of the SCHP. Alissa Dekalb, 19, from Travelers Rest, was sitting at a stop sign in a 2011 Jeep Wrangler and pulled out in front of the Stokes at the intersection of S.C. 101 and S.C. 414. 

Stokes struck the SUV and died at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday at Greenville Memorial Hospital. He was not wearing a helmet, Deputy Coroner Kent Dill said.

Stokes died from a traumatic head injury. 

Dekalb was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. Rhyne said no charges have been filed in the accident, but that the investigation is ongoing.
