Obituary: Wilbur I. Sherk of Taylors

Funeral services for the WWII veteran will be held Wednesday at Wood Mortuary.

Wilbur Irvin Sherk, 93, of 455 Wood Road, widower of Hazel Shirley Sherk, died February 24, 2013 at this home.

A native of South Dakota, son of the late Charles M. and Eleanor Anderson Sherk, he was a retired employee of Celanese, a member of Fairview Baptist Church and a retired U.S. Air Force Veteran of 22½ years.

Surviving are two sons, Joel Russell of Greer and Greg Sherk of Taylors; one daughter, Joyce Walker of San Antonio, Texas; one sister Marilyn Damit of Yuma, Arizona; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Mr. Sherk was predeceased by a son, Jerrell Russell, five brothers and seven sisters.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wood Mortuary conducted by Dr. Tom Burns. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens with full military rites.

Visitation will be held 12:45-1:45 p.m. Wednesday at Wood Mortuary.

The family is at the home of a son, Joel Russell.
