UPDATE: Man Killed in I-385 Wreck Identified

Authorities say the victim rear-ended tanker truck.

A two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 385 claimed the life of a Pelzer man Tuesdsay morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. 

According to WYFF, Coroner Mike Ellis has identified the man as Nathan Anthony Croft, from Fountain Inn. Ellis said that Croft was not wearing a seat belt, and died from multiple blunt force trauma to his head and neck, according to the station's report.

Lance Corporal Bill Rhyne said Croft was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pick-up truck northbound on I-385 near Simpsonville at approximately 9:10 a.m. when the collision occurred.

Martinez Perry, 31, was driving a large tanker truck northbound, when he reportedly stopped for traffic in front of him at around mile marker 31. Rhyne said the Croft never braked and slammed directly into the rear of the tanker truck, which was carrying methanol. No leak was reported at the scene, and by noon, the scene was completely cleared. 

Perry, of Kinston, Ga., was wearing seat belt and was not injured.
