Father's Day is coming up this weekend

Pop. Dad. Daddy. Paw. Da-Da.
No matter what you call or used to call you father, nearly all of us can appreciate the role they played in our lives.
This weekend is Father's Day weekend, when the generally accepted practice is to eat family dinners together, hug your dad's neck and give him a token of appreciation. But the holiday was a long time in the making.

Father's Day wasn't recognized as an official holiday until 1972, some 58 years after Mother's Day was instituted, according to History.com. That doesn't necessarily mean that those outside of the federal government didn't think it was a good idea.
In 1910, the governor of Washington State proclaimed the nation’s first “Father’s Day." Two years before that, a church in West Virginia held an event to honor fathers during a Sunday sermon in memory of the 362 men who had died in the pervious December's explosions at the Fairmont Coal Company mines.
