Protest Planned to Support City Food Trucks
"Peaceful protest" scheduled for Wednesday on Wade Hampton Blvd. expected to draw hundreds.

A Greenville restaurant on Wednesday will host a protest of recently proposed regulations restricting food truck operations downtown.
The "peaceful protest" will take place Wednesday from 5:30-10:30 p.m. at The Owl restaurant, located at 728 Wade Hampton Blvd. The protest is expected to draw hundreds, based on RSVPs posted on Facebook, WYFF reported.
The protest will feature the Neue Southern and Asada food trucks, and will draw guest chefs from out of state, the station reported. The trucks, along with The Owl, will be serving during the protest.
The protest is meant to shine a spotlight on regulations proposed by Greenville City Council that would prevent food trucks from parking within 250 feet of existing restaurants, "essentially banning them from the downtown Central Business District," the station reported.
Protest organizers said the proposed rules are too restrictive and developed without input from food truck owners. Proponents of the regulations contend existing restaurants deserve some degree of protection from encroachment by the trucks.
