Rifle-Toting Man Arrested In Taylors On Meth Charge

A phone call about a man carrying around a rifle ended in his arrest for drug possession.

A Greer man seen wandering a wooded area of Taylors with a rifle in hand was arrested Tuesday morning, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office confirmed Wednesday. 

At roughly 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, a call was made from Taylors regarding a man with a gun. He was seen at the tree line around Old Chick Springs Road and Main Street there. 

George C. Payne, 48, was quickly located by deputies and found to have slightly more than one gram of crystal methamphetamine in his possession, as well as a pipe.

He was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia, said Laura Campbell, public information officer for the GCSO.
