A run will be held Saturday to benefit a crisis center, now that the person who used to benefit from the proceeds no longer needs the financial support.
The Run2Overcome 2012 originated after a 19-year-old female jogger was sexually assaulted and severely beaten while running on Greenville's east side in 2008. The victim, requiring assistance that far exceeded what could be offered by the State Office of Victim's Assistance, was helped by the Greenville community with a fundraising 5K run.
Now that the victim no longer needs the financial assistance, the run is going to benefit the Julie Valentine Center, a rape crisis center assistance victims of child abuse and sexual abuse in Greenville and Pickens Counties.

The Julie Valentine Center, which derives its name from the police's name for an unknown infant found dead in Greenville in February of 1990, provides community education programs to help stop child abuse and sexual assault, and also provides services to victims of abuse and sexual assault that has already occurred.
The 4th Annual Run2Overcome will begin at 7:30 a.m., at Cleveland Park, starting with the 10K run. The 5K starts at 8 a.m. Race packet pick-up begins at 6:30 a.m. There will also be a "fun run" for children. The 5K costs $25, and the 10K costs $30.
