SC College All Star Bowl Rosters Announced

Inaugural SC College All Star Bowl set for March 23.

Players from 50 colleges and universities will take part in the inaugural South Carolina College All Star Bowl this month.

The South Carolina College All Star Bowl pits a team representing the Lowcountry against a team from the Upstate.  The Upstate team consists of players from Upstate colleges and universities and/or athletes who played high school football in the region, but went out-of-state to play college. The Lowcountry team is made up of a similar group of players.

“South Carolina is a football state with great talent,” said Sam Wyche, the former Cincinnati Bengals coach, who is serving as the game’s commissioner. “This game will help settle which part of the state produces the best.”

Some players of note include Calgary offensive lineman Kirby Fabien, who was selected to the East/West Shrine game in Tampa this year, and Jordan Mosely from Johnson C. Smith, Austin Sargent from Gardner-Webb, Dyrell Roberts from Virginia Tech, Gee Gee Greene from Navy, who all  played in the Raycom College Football All Star Football in January.

The Lowcountry team features players from the  University of South Carolina, University of Nebraska, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, Navy, Howard, Wyoming, University of Alabama-Birmingham, Coastal Carolina, The Citadel, Wingate University, South Carolina State, Brevard College, Furman University, Appalachian State, Calgary,  St. Augustine, Benedict, North Carolina Central, Carson Newman, Tennessee Tech, Shaw, Charleston Southern, Johnson C. Smith, West Chester, Kean, Winston-Salem State, Knox, Georgia State and  Western Carolina.

The Upstate team has players representing Clemson University, Virginia, Navy, Washington State, East Carolina, The University of Colorado, Brevard, Newberry College, Bowling Green, The Citadel, Presbyterian College, Wingate, North Greenville,  Tifflin, Bethune-Cookman, Davidson, Gardner-Webb, Furman, Rochester, Fort Valley State, Concord, Western Carolina, Winona State, Mars Hill, Tusculum, and Averett. “This is the last all-star game before the NFL draft,” said David Wyatt, the game’s director. “This will be the last opportunities for pro scouts to get a look at these players in action.”

The South Carolina College All Star Bowl will be played on March 23, 2013 at 3 p.m. at North Greenville University. The game will be aired live to more than 4.5 million viewers throughout South Carolina as well as parts of Georgia and North Carolina. South Carolina State University legend Willie Jeffries will coach the Lowcountry team and Clemson University great Danny Ford will lead the Upstate team.

Clemson and University of South Carolina broadcasters Will Merritt and Todd Ellis will provide commentary and insight for the game.
