
a law enforcement officer in Greenville County has had to use his weapon, this time off of Roper Mountain Road in Greenville.
Master Deputy Jennings Autrey said on Friday that at roughly 3 p.m., the Greenville County Sheriff's Office received a phone call in reference to a mentally ill individual causing a disturbance at a family member's home at 22 Windcrest Drive.
"A deputy went to the residence, and made contact with the man," Jennings said. "While they were talking, he charged the deputy and tackled him to the ground."

The deputy reportedly commanded the man, who has yet to be identified, to the get off of him multiple times. Eventually, the officer managed to get to his handgun, and fired a shot.
The man was struck in the chest and taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital. His condition is not yet known.

The deputy did not have any reported injuries.
Autrey said he did not anticipate the name of the subject who charged the deputy being released tonight. He added that the name of the deputy who fired the shot would likely not be released until the end of the investigation.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been called in to investigate the incident and the deputy involved has been placed on administrative duty, per standard operating procedure in shootings involving deputies.
