Sheriff's Office Investigating Travelers Rest Shooting Death

Greer man on trespass notice was shot and killed Wednesday night.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting in Travelers Rest that left a 26-year-old man dead.

At roughly 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, a man called 911 from a home on Terrace Road, north of Travelers Rest, to report a shooting. When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered a 26-year-old man later, identified as James Brock, outside in the yard of the home with a gunshot wound to the back. According to a release from the sheriff's office, a woman was kneeling next to Brock and was seen putting a cloth over the man's back. Brock died from his injuries roughly an hour later.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed by the Greenville County Coroner's Office on Thursday.

Investigators were told that Brock began to argue with a female outside the residence shortly before he was shot, when the female retreated into the home and another man within the house came out with a firearm. Another altercation then ensued, resulting in at least one round being discharged, striking Brock.

Brock had been placed on trespass notice after a disturbance that occurred at the same residence in 2008.
